Kelly Moran’s lifelong reimagination of the piano’s possibilities has taken her to many heights throughout her career, and with her latest EP Vesela, she continues to explore new frontiers. Like kindred spirit Ryuichi Sakamoto (whose work she expands upon with ‘Medusa’), Moran pushes the piano’s emotive potential, this time by approaching the self playing Yamaha piano brand Disklavier with a uniquely human feel. Harmonies fractured yet wholesome breathe through softly falling chords, as swelling waves emerge from the sustain. Multiple melodic voices converge and coalesce as if played by many hands, all responding to each other through ripples of delicate touch.
