The long-awaited debut full length from UK rapper CASISDEAD entitled Famous Last Words has finally touched down to earth via XL Recordings. First emerging in 2013, CASISDEAD has thus far played the light-and-shadow game, trickling out beloved releases sporadically while maintaining anonymity (and outright ignoring the music press machine), and building up a vast lore. Famous Last Words plays takes this game even further, stretching a narrative that lends itself to sci-fi as its narrator descends into a retro-futuristic world (courtesy of collaborators like Italians Do It Better boss Johnny Jewel, Stranger Things composer Kyle Dixon, and Pet Shop Boys’ Neil Tennant, to name a few) of organized crime and all the trappings that come with it. CASISDEAD uses this high-concept backdrop to tell tales of love, loss, and paranoia, heady but relatable stuff from an artist that knows how to build a narrative.
