Seattle’s Shabazz Palaces kick off 2024 with a pair of mini-albums for Sub Pop, the first of which is entitled Robed In Rareness. With the outfit now paired down to simply Ishmael Butler the veteran MC still retains a purposely nebulous approach to hip-hop nearly over 30 years into his career in this game, folding in influences from all over the sonic spectrum in an effort to expand the horizons of the genre. Yet while rolling solo Shabazz still remains a highly-collaborative affair with everyone from Butler’s son Lil Tracy to Camp Lo’s Geechi Suede getting in on the action.
