Lost Girls (the duo of Norwegian multidisciplinary artists Jenny Hval and Håvard Volden) return to Smalltown Supersound for their second LP entitled Selvutsletter. Lost Girls again have invented a Norwegian word for the title, with Selvutsletter loosely translating to something like “self-effacer”. Culled largely from a commissioned live set performed in Lyon, France in 2022, Selvutsletter eschews the clubbier, more electronic phrasing of their debut Menneskekollektivet in favour of more formless music that most closely mirrors rock. Sense memory also plays a pivotal role in tracks like ‘June 1996’ and ‘Re-entering the City’ where folk, and something like synth-pop help Hval and Volden trace their own early musical discoveries.
