You get the sense that, if he had lived longer, Scott Walker might have ended up making something like Golem Mecanique’s Nona, Decima et Morta. This is a fearless record which, in its conviction, actually ends up making the listener quite fearful. Golem Mecanique head-honcho Karen Jebane used her voice, an organ and a BAB (a mechanical hurdy-gurdy) to create these grinding, nails-on-a-blackboard drones, with additional help from Mediterranean folk-music expert Marion Cousin. If one stretched out tracks from Keeley Forsyth’s recent Debris LP you might get close to Nona, Decima et Morta, but really this isn’t the sort of thing that can be imitated - only experienced.
