Those expecting a more traditional take on R&B and vocal soul, will be surprised to hear the currently omnipresent Damon Albarn and XL Records boss Richard Russell at work on soul legend, Bobby Womack’s brand new album, ‘The Bravest Man in the Universe’. We hear Womack’s worn and wise voice tangled amidst clattering electronics, deep dubby grandeur, minimal blues-era guitar strumming, Albarn’s evocative ivory work and vocal samples from both Sam Cooke and Gil Scott Heron. Quite a special album.
