‘Beams’ is Matthew Dear’s much anticipated follow-up to 2010’s ‘Black City’ long player. Where his most recent album was a tale of dark, night-time activity, his current work is Dear reawakening, shimmering rays of light peaking out between the cracks. The lead single from the album, ‘Her Fantasy’ is classic Matthew Dear avant-garde pop, charismatic and infectious and twisting with queasy optimism. ‘Crimewaves’ is a fizzing, synth-horn tracks, alongside Tornado Wallace’s disco-house take on ‘Her Fantasy’.
