An intercontinental collaboration for the ages, Vancouver’s Loscil and Brisbane’s Lawrence English have come together for the first time to issue Colours of Air, their first joint LP for Kranky. Culled from sessions on an ancient pipe organ hosted by the Old Museum in Brisbane, the basic tracks were then manipulated, electronically treated, and reshaped into a sort of mystical electro-acoustic symphony of bright and dark hues. Sitting somewhere between the sacred and the profane, each track is named after the light it gave off, with lighter tracks like the opening ‘Cyan’ progressing towards the pitch dark ‘Black’ at the record’s centre.
