Melding a steadfast hardcore methodology and a misty-eyed celebration of the past with forward-thinking production techniques, Special Request’s 2019 release Zero Fucks was a standout release of 2019. Hooversound Recordings suggest that such a skilful blend of weighty hard-hitting and unapologetic sentimentality demands a remixer with a like-minded sensibility — enter Tim Reaper.

A staple contemporary junglist, Reaper approaches the raw material of four choice Zero Fucks cuts with a coterminous respect — for Special Request’s original ethos — and irreverence — with the inherent cheek of a producer able to bend tracks to his whim. Much of the time, Reaper’s all about turning liquid to solid and vice versa, as his lusciously spacious rendering of ‘Pull Up’ shows. Shimmering pads and glassy arpeggios adorn the moody breakbeats and the wistful sample (which should be familiar to any DJ Rashad fans out there). Meanwhile, the strangely moving piano of ‘Quiet Storm’ receives a hardened sense of tension by Reaper’s percussion and keys, all whilst retaining its melancholic rave atmosphere. In a striking turn, Reaper’s ‘Straight Off The Block’ finds a bigger brick with which to smash the beat, and features the most sacred of junglist tools, a build-to-drop melee.

Tim Reaper yet again proves himself as a talented jungle producer and remixer joining forces with the unstoppable force that is Special Request.
