Perhaps best known for intimate and delicate compositions for solo piano, the music of UK producer and multi-instrumentalist Kit Grill in 2020 is virtually unrecognisable alongside 2018’s Obsession. But Ride manages to sacrifice neither of those original qualities. Compositions like ‘Night’, ‘Backseat’ and the Steve Reichian flutter of ‘7th’ tread into electronica territories with thanks to a breathy, organic Fairlight CMI digital synth, as ‘Over’ features that most uncommon of Kit Grill timbres; an electronic beat.
