It’s a wonder why René Pawlowitz goes by so many monikers; Pawlowitz’s MO is a constant stream of high-quality, no-frills techno mastery. In the case of Tectonic, he appears as Shed, and the results are no exception to the rule. ‘Try’ breaks up the beat to serve up a dubstep-techno hybrid, sounding like Burial with a boosted higher end. ‘Box’, on the other hand, makes no bones about amping up the tension with a mounting 4/4 beat, which blooms into a gravelly off-centre banger. Pawlowitz keeps it up for ‘Sweep’ with a tasty, dislocated rhythm, nestled within a twinkling lead and a near-industrial backdrop.
