The techno that Susanne Kirchmayr has made as Electric Indigo has always had an experimental quality to it, but recent years have seen her music move further than ever into the avant-garde. This trend continues on Ferrum, an LP which pushes on from 2018’s excellent 5 1 1 5 9 3 album. Some of the tracks here contort typical techno sounds into strange new shapes, their jerky anti-rhythms and outer-world textures coming off like a classic Ostgut Ton joint being given a going-over by Rian Treanor. Other tracks etherise, leaving the dancefloor behind for electroacoustic territory. Ferrum is another fascinating and eerie record from Electric Indigo.
