Originally issued in 1979, at a time when the experimental edge of popular jazz was softening into smooth radio-playability, London imprint BBE re-sharpen the sting of the true innovators with Miyasaka + 5’s Animals Garden. Billed as a precious one-off by drummer/bandleader Takashi ‘Bear’ Miyasaka and featuring the downright firestorm saxophone work of Koichi Matsukaze, Animals Garden is a beatific miasma of Japanese post bop hijinks in the tumultuous vein of Otomo Yoshihide’s New Jazz Quintet.
