Ben Vince and Jacob Samuel, two of our preeminent experimental artists, unite for an LP that darts between free composition, improvisation and the contemporary classical avant-garde. Throughout I’ll Stick Around, Vince’s saxophone and Samuel’s piano converse in a stuttering but strangely beautiful manner. It may not be conventionally pretty, but there is true beauty in the stunted harmony of a track like ‘fig 3’. I’ll Stick Around is a rare and tender thing - some of it comes close to Oliver Coates’ most clear-headed work. The master of sax-based pseudo-techno and maker of antidepressant left field happy hardcore (also of Housewives fame) join forces for an LP of free jazz spontaneity. I’ll Stick Around sees Ben Vince and Jacob Samuel come to grips with the barest of musical means, hammering and skronking their way through an arrangement of sax and piano pieces showcasing the elemental sensibilities of both musicians to a tee.
