Karlrecords drop the debut LP from Iranian composer and instrumentalist Saba Alizadeh. Scattered Memories finds Alizadeh bringing together two different sides of his practice. On the one hand, many of the tracks here are built from Alizadeh’s mastery of the Iranian spike fiddle; on the other, Alizadeh’s electro-acoustic practice allows him to juxtapose the traditional sounds of his instrument with a contemporary aesthetic. The tension between old and new sonics makes Scattered Memories a bracing listen that has similarities with Ben Frost and Gazelle Twin.
