If I Had a Pair of Wings: Jamaican Doo Wop, Vol. 1
Death Is Not The End
Catalogue Number
Release Date
November 23, 2018

Before the sound of ska properly captivated the island nation, the sounds coming from Jamaica were of a different kind. Doo-wop and R&B, much as it did in the US, soundtracked Jamaica in the 50s and early 60s, setting the scene for the island’s then-fledgeling independent record industry. This compilation by ace label Death Is Not The End features gems by the likes of Keith and Enid and The Mellowlarks, as well as early work by future ska giants like Jimmy Cliff and Alton Ellis.
