After a few years on the backburner, Regis and Mønic revive their CUB project. Despite not dropping any wax since 2012 the pair’s sound remains pleasingly unchanged by the intervening years. Seeing From Above contains three pieces of grainy and foreboding techno. The opening title track is a jarring (in a good way) mix of dubby effects, slow-mo jungle rhythms and clanking synths. It operates in a zone somewhere between Peder Mannerfelt and Giant Swan. ‘Primitive Sleep’ is a similar tune that leans heavier on the Berlin sounds that pepper ‘Seeing From Above’. Sandwiched between these we get the languid lurch of ‘Informal Beauty’.
