Following releases on Mechanical Reproductions and Livity Sound offshoot Dnuos Ytivil, Via Maris debuts on Mistry (Chevel, Batu). Given that Shelleys is an EP released on a label run by Beneath, there was always going to be at least one intensely rhythmic dancefloor jam here. That honour goes to the title track, a whirring piece of soundsystem techno of the Hessle/Timedance school. However, the rest of the release largely eschews percussion for melodic keyboard lines and impressionistic synth work. ‘Toys’ keens sweetly in a way that, oddly enough, brings to mind the beat from Young Thug’s ‘Constantly Hating’ with the drums stripped out.
