Forest Swords returned in 2017 with Compassion, an album that was split between the ecstasy and melancholy of his earlier recordings. Yet what made it such an important record was how far into the late night dusk-fallen allure we were led. The music dragged out the edge of the night sounds that were previously only hinted at on the distant horizon of his sound world, and in doing so made Compassion one of the most searching, yet explorative records of the year.
