Extra Noir began life as podcast, beamed out of South Korea, that specialised in the spookier side of experimental electronics. After more than thirty broadcasts, the EN brand has now added a label arm. Featuring artists from Korea, Scotland and the US, Extra Noir Volume 1 features eight exercises in coldwave, darkwave and Gothic post-punk. The broad range of artists and territories covered here makes for a nicely varied listen. For instance, after the record is ushered in by the droning chimes of Aadm Our Hatley’s ‘Sign Spinning School’, we are then hit full in the face by the industrial disco of Glasgow’s Total Leatherette.
