Wackies reissue the 1982 LP from reggae sweetheart Junior Delahaye. The past few years has seen plenty of excavation - most notably by Soul Jazz Records - of the period where American soul, funk and Motown stylings started to influence the deejays of Jamaica. Showcase is a worthy addition to that canon. Delahaye casts his gorgeous tenor against some low-lit grooves that bring together roots-derived rhythm playing with the melodic and harmonic flourishes of Philadelphia soul. Originals like ‘Love’ and ‘Movie Show’ are tough and touching in equal measure, and Delahaye also offers up fine versions of Billy Stewart’s ‘Sitting In The Park’ and The Fuzz’s ‘I Love You For All Seasons’.
