Prince Douglas’s 1980 LP Dub Roots gets a long-overdue repress by Wackies. Long-coveted by DJs, collectors and Rhythm & Sound freaks alike, Dub Roots derives in large part from tracks laid down by Sly & Robbie. Some of the dubs here - for instance ‘March Down Babylon’ and ‘Tribesman’ - have achieved legendary status. Douglas Levy gets the band to lay down some of the rocksteadiest grooves you ever heard, then soups them up ever further with some cavernous reverb and great plumes of delay. On joints like ‘Tongue Shall Tell’ a snippet of vocal is added and left to curl in the air like a question mark of smoke. Vital stuff.
