Exploring the latest animation techniques to create a drug-addled ‘through the looking glass’ type world where its inhabitants are hooked on the mysterious Substance D, Linklater enlisted the help of Graham Reynolds to provide an equally bleak and surreal soundtrack. Diverting between sparse ambient pieces, operatic rock, experimental sound design and even featuring a DJ Spooky cameo, the thrilling yet nauseous effect of the score makes us more than inclined to revisit the film.
