For those who thought Joey Beltram was all about the acid & ecstasy of Energy Flash, prepare to sink deep into a haunting world of post-club mind tingling electronica, originally released in 1994, Aonox was like Autechre leaving a 4x4 909 pattern running through the centre of Incunabula. Aonox is a truly hidden classic of the early '90s (badly mislabeled) intelligent electronica scene.

Arriving via the relatively unknown Ownlife imprint, who's incision was "set up to focus on the hypnotic side of Techno" this reissue of Aonox is set to propel the reputation of Ownlife to the highest regards of many still going strong despite the '90s post club induced burn out raver, as well as setting a new precedent for the youth whose knowledge of Joey Beltram ends after a repress of his game-changing Energy Flash 12".

Over the years much has been said about Aonox and its place within the Warp/AI electronica spectrum, yet revisiting it after all these years (and with a killer remastering job, hats off to whomever Ownlife booked in, they totally get it) we are truly stuck by how current it actually sounds. From the Varg in Star Alliance mode ambient acid of 'Step' through to the haunted glacial DNB roll of 'Proto Four' which for our two cents could easily be a secret DB1 and Felix K techsteppin Hidden Hawaii.

Whatever your preference, Aonox is a timeless album that deserves a lot more attention than it has received in the past, a true cult record in every sense of the word, and traces of its DNA run through the work of everyone from Instra:mental, Scuba, Northern Electronics, Suction and countless other artists and labels... basically, it's the one.
