Mallard has made the leap that so many music fans dream of. From being a regular attendee at Bradley Zero’s Rhythm Section parties, he now finds himself releasing his debut EP via the night’s label arm. It is a tribute to Zero’s impeccable ear that he has unearthed another gem. Verte is that rarest of club records that finds power in quietness and manages to draw a great deal of groove from a minimum of materials. The five tracks here move between Balearic house, early Detroit stylings and somnambulant breakbeat in a manner that will get you swaying either at home or in a crowd. Still only 20, we don’t expect that Verte will be the last we hear of Mallard.
