An exciting excursion from Gerd Janson’s Running Back imprint here. The first of the label’s ‘Super Sound Singles’ sees Janson and Shan rework two tracks from French disco group the Gibson Brothers. Originally a UK top-ten hit upon release in 1979, ‘Ooh, What A Life’ is given a new lick of paint. The original’s insistent thrust is left to wreak havoc, with Janson and Shan warming up the lows and adding some cosmic inflections hither and thither. B-side ‘Heaven’ is nudged into bongo-house territory, and the wicked groove that underpins the track’s seven-plus minutes just keeps giving. A fine pair of edits.
