This Record Store Day release sees Sam Posner (one-time student of the Red Bull Music Academy) ferret around the edges of Balearic house, coldwave and synth-pop. The most obvious comparison is with ‘Let’s Go Swimming’-era Arthur Russell, and not simply because the press release says that this EP is ‘a meditation on the beauty and power of the ocean’. Stuttering keys, keening drums and warm swells of melody characterise tracks like ‘Number Stations’ and ‘Austerlitz’. Posner weds a club producer’s eye for track development to an ability to paint in broad emotional strokes that calls to mind Caribou and the recent Talaboman collaboration between Axel Boman and John Talabot.
