Lucio Fulchi’s 1980 movie Contraband is considered a classic of Poliziotteschi, a genre of Italian movies that are also known as ‘spaghetti crime’. A tale of gangland violence and murder, Contraband goes toe-to-toe with American movies of the time like The French Connection and Death Wish. Composer Fabio Frizzi turns in an effortlessly cool score that splices together influences from the funk and soul-influenced style of Blaxploitation soundtracks as well as fellow Italian screen composers Goblin.
