After a well-received debut EP from label boss Shanti Celeste, the second Peach Discs offering is the debut release from Bristol’s Fred (which is actually two people). No matter how many are involved behind the scenes, the quality of the productions here is undeniable. Both ‘Loverman’ and ‘Hollywood Rolling’ are fine sample-based house rollers that hark back to the genre’s golden age in a manner similar to contemporary retro-aficionados Detroit Swindle, Moodymann and Theo Parrish. The tightly-wound grooves, smoky soul vocals and rugged Juno bass lines here are a treat for anyone who likes their club fare served with a real vintage flavour.
