You might not know him by name, but you may well have heard Ludwig Göransson’s music as his star has risen throughout the 2010s. He has written for Haim, Childish Gambino and Chance, the Rapper, signed a management deal with Roc Nation, and his film and tv work includes Community, New Girl and this 2015 installment in the Rocky franchise, Creed. The score demonstrates Göransson’s stylistic flexibility and dexterity, moving effortlessly between blaxploitation-tinged hip-hop instrumentals, bombastic film music in the vein of John Williams and heartstrings-tugging moments of solo piano. Fittingly, the whole album holds itself with a poise and swagger that the famous fighter himself would be proud of.
