Armzhouse is Hyperdub DJ/producer Cooly G’s first release since her 2014 album Wait ‘Til Night. While that album was made up of sultry R&B jams, Armzhouse sees her return to heavier, trackier territory. Cooly’s always made house music, but here she seems to be going for it in a big way: these are all no-nonsense club hitters with influences from tech house, tribal house, and UK funky. Lead track ‘Trippin B’ is a ballistic belter, while ‘Horrors In The Dance’ has a lopsided, sinister feel, but the key cut here is ‘Flange City’, an ultra-minimal club construction.
