Released on the new 12” imprint raum, an offshoot of Tokyo’s Flau Records, Things You Left Behind is the latest offering from prolific Montreal producer Devon Hansen (Lotide) under his more dance-oriented Stefan Jos alias. The influence of Manchester’s current crop of deep, dark techno producers is evident here, and it’s no surprise to learn that Demdike Stare’s Miles Whittaker mastered these tracks. ‘Specialism (Uneasy)’, with its sparse, claustrophobic production and dub inflected bass would slot comfortably into an Akkord DJ set, while opener ‘Inside Voices’ has a lighter house vibe, its rumbling bass augmented by playful rattles and pops.
