Back in 1982, little known TV show The Chicago Party became a cult hit across Illinois, beaming a psychedelic Technicolor array of light entertainment out into Saturday night suburbia. Magicians, contortionists and dance-troupes rubbed shoulders with spandex clad soulsters and sharp-suited post-disco pretenders to create a dazzling, funky, and at times downright bizarre medley of eighties black culture. Inspired by the variety and vitality of the show, Numero Group have put together an eye-opening double album, featuring a host of rare self-released 45s and long-buried 12”s from the era, including five previously unreleased tracks.
