Arttu’s breakbeat inclinations are worn with pride on this release. The shuddering 4/4 of the opening two cuts sound like the sounds of European nightclubs from years gone by. Then comes Feed Da Bird, a sinister basement demianthem with a beat so tightly screwed it’s almost unnerving. While he continues to reshape the typical infrastructures of breakbeat music, Arttu manages to evenly weigh out the nostalgia and the ambition on Evvy Steps. An unmistakably forward thinking release even with the throwback moments.
