Intriguing Portuguese outfit Gala Drop reveal their second album entitled II in collaboration with Golf Channel Records. As with the group’s debut self titled LP, their far-reaching sound represents a marriage of Balearic funk, woozy electronics and pristine Detroit techno textures. ‘You And I’ opens with a barrage of clinical glitches to then settle into a comfortable psyched-out dub groove whereas ‘Sun Gun’ fuses motorik drumming to tribal African hand drums. Sun stroked guitar picks underpin ‘Monad’, which are nicely complimented by emotionally charged chords that hawk back to Carl Craig’s earliest material. Finally, on closer ‘Samba Da Maconha’ we get a rollicking rush of poly-rhythmic drum licks and tipsy Portuguese proto-funk. Keep your eye on this lot.
