Barcelona-based post-punk artist Arnau Sala Saez condenses both of his 2014 Referèndum cassettes for a striking vinyl release pressed up on blue wax via Hospital productions. Across each of the nine cuts, Saez drowns up in his clouded world through use of industrial percussion, atonal noise and galvanized rhythms; shifting from the cauterizing synth hiss of ‘Percentage’, muffled rhythmic entanglements on ‘Poscions’ or the ear-piecing mechanical spew of ‘L’Altre Coast’. ‘Transicio’ sets a hovering aural hum amongst distant Balinese gamelan chimes, followed by the bleak, minimalistic groove ‘Definicio D’Estat’. The longest piece, ‘La Mirada Llarga’ focuses on a more obvious use of rhythm, deploying coarse synth fragments to form a coarse, kinetic industrial swing that equates to equal parts noise and techno – a perfect fit for the Hospital Records aesthetic.
