Opal Tapes 50th release comes from Detroit’s Travis Galloway: on his debut EP as Siobhan, he celebrates his obsession with industrial beats. As co-founder of the cassette label All Gone records, Galloway is responsible for most of the releases’ artwork and Southgate sonically reflects his DIY aesthetic. Over-driven and muffled percussion forms the structure of his infectious sound, built up by layer and layer from raw synth textures and a hint of distorted vocal samples. With these lo-fi surfaces grating their way through the course of the EP, Galloway proves himself the perfect fit for the Opal Tapes roster.
