Babou is the third release from Dutch label Something Happening Somewhere, founded by DJ, producer and Trouw resident Nuno Dos Santos. This EP from Amsterdam producer Presk is based around the concept of messing around with linear structures. This is amply demonstrated by second track ‘Sink Shift’, structured round minimal synth stabs that are pushed and pulled in different ways. ‘Babou’ is reminiscent of Caribou’s work - one wonders if the name is a sort of tribute. While ‘Gomero’ plays on a simple synth riff that falls apart into an ambient section midway through the track.
