Brooklyn-based imprint RVNG Intl continue their run of form with Vol. 11 in the FRKWYS series which pairs up and coming artists with their more established and relevant predecessors. This time the veteran British blues guitarist Mike Cooper is paired with the New York-based Steve Gunn for Contos De Lisboa – an ode to the regional music of the Portuguese capital. The result is some staggering interplay between the bluesy guitar of Gunn and Cooper’s lap-steel styles, augmented by a range of effects and abstract techniques that contribute to the boundary pushing feel of the release.
