Bass-music purveyors Slime Recordings present the promising debut EP from Bristol based newcomer Shalt. The mysterious producer showcases his propensity for crafting ominous bass-hybrids in a variety of different flavours. Despite it’s ridiculously deep sub-bass and rolling drum work, ‘Oneironaut’ is rather mellow, thanks in part to lush pads and airy synths. On ‘Ubi Sunt,’ choral vocals and stuttering drums are overlaid to great effect. The slinky ‘Spacial Acuity’ opens in a fog of FX, from which Shalt carves an atmospherically bouncy double-time banger, while closer ‘Whitewalls’ rides a similarly sinuous beat constructed from swelling synths and clicking mouth percussion.
