AVN011 sees the first American release for Shifted and Ventress’ Avian label from L.I.E.S. and the Corner affiliate Shawn O’ Sullivan, under the new pseudonym 400PPM. The six tracks here consist of the kind of bone-rattling techno which characterises the label’s output, with tracks like ‘Occupational Exposure’ and ‘Lean Manufacturing’ funnelling the insistent bongo patterns of Shackleton through a layer of machine chorus and delay to unique effect. The EP’s beatless bookending tracks allow textural elements to take the fore. ‘Non Nocere’ is a wall of churning analogue drone, while ‘Evitandus’ is a crawling melody that seems to have crept out from the heart of 400PPM’s crushing beat structures.
