!K7 Records brings a modern minimalist classic back to vinyl with this much needed reissue of The Brandt Brauer Frick Ensemble’s 2011 LP Mr. Machine. Splitting the difference between ambient, modern classical, jazz, and dub techno, Mr. Machine is a fascinating slice of electronic music equally suited for the conservatory and the chill out. Tracks like ‘Pretend’ speak to the trio’s outspoken love for dance and pop music, pulling equally from both with its propulsive low end and emotive vocal melodies. There’s a playful bend to Brandt Brauer Frick’s alchemy too, as heard in the buoyant strings and rhythmic heft on the closing ‘606 ‘n’ Rock ‘n’ Roll’.
