Black Orpheus boss Patrick Conway provides the second release on the Fusion Diagnostics imprint. On the Cobby & His Animals EP, Conway serves up a trio of originals that all fall somewhere on the spectrum between classic techno/acid house. The title-track shows off a strong Detroit influence with its keening synths and burbling 303, and the cautious ‘Flight Path’ is similarly retro. Closing cut ‘The Gardener’ crests on dawn chorus synth pads and a punchy downtempo beat - this is probably the most psychedelic track here, reminiscent as it is of The Orb. Filling out the rest of Cobby & His Animals we get a Chicago-ified, slightly Balearic remix of the eponymous number from Luca Lozano and a typically inventive take on ‘The Gardener’ courtesy of Brainwaltzera.
