The album that put London-via-Glasgow trio Still House Plants on the map, Fast Edit. Jess Hickie-Kallenbach’s vocals are full of emotion with their mellifluous, smoky texture, yet in a totally unrestrained world of their own. In fact, an arresting lack of restraint characterises the entire album: Finlay Clark’s guitars buzz and froth and overflow with energy, David Kennedy’s drum ballistics erupt all over, structures stretch and snap in nonlinear fashion, and recordings switch from hifi heart rushes to wild lofi jam sessions. It’s a brilliantly punkish display of how a three piece can still innovate and travel to completely unexplored places in the 21st century.
