Genres

MINING stand at a confluence between science, sound, and the forces of nature on their debut album Chimet, tracking the paths of storms Ophelia and Brian which hit the British Isles in 2017. Slow undulations of wind and sea are sonified streams of data on the opening ‘Ophelia’, with minimal microbeats keeping the pulse and flow of time as vast weather systems evolve. Such gentle beginnings deceive the later ruckus these storms kick up, as the earthshaking rumble of oncoming stormclouds soon becomes erupting fountains of bass, gathering momentum and hurtles into searing, sparkling synth gales on ‘Force 10’.
