Originally composed for the same titled ballet by Stephen Petronio, ‘Architecture of Loss’, Valgeir Sigurdsson’s third full-length album is a powerful work in its own right. In addition to Sigurdsson himself, composer and keyboardist Nico Muhly appears alongside classical violinist Nadia Sirota and multi-instrumentalist Shahzad Ismaily. The final result is a dense and varied piece of music that flows between folk-like melodies to sparse, acoustic sounds and visceral, digital sound design.
