German producer Lars Bartkuhn returns to the Rush Hour label for his first solo LP in over 9 years entitled Dystopia. Bartkuhn set up hard parameters early on in its creation by disallowing any sequencers or drums during the recording, resulting in some of his most free-wheeling music to date. Dating back to his jazzier roots, Dystopia is born of improvisation, with modular synths and hand drums left to express Bartkuhn’s not so chill thoughts on the state of the world. The album's centrepiece ‘Disembodied Journey’ comes through in three movements, each sumptuously sculpted and thematically entwined.
