Nearing 20 years in the game and well over that many records, Craige Clouse’s Shit and Shine project still finds new ways to contort sound, with his latest LP containing dance music that is totally deconstructed and demolished. Choppy, pulverised beats run through 2222 and AIRPORT, amidst nonsensical vocal samples and distorted factory floor synth cuttings. ‘BBC BEACH’ stumbles with hyperventilating percussion, ‘DIRT BIKE’ bends, stretches, and pierces signals, and ‘INFINITE SHINE’ growls along its 7 minutes with rolling drums and a roiling acid bassline, before the album ends with three vignettes of industrial, low frequency, drill powered rhythms.
