Washington DC-based producer/singer/DJ dreamcastmoe makes his Spectral Sound debut with a full length entitled Sound Is Like Water. Pulling in influences from all across the genre spectrum, Water feels distinctly DC, a place where soul, hip-hop, punk, house and techno often commingle in a way like no other city. Few other records would have a woozy shuffling beat like the one on dubby highlight ‘Novacaine’ slide so neatly into the springy electro of ‘Cloudy Weather, Wear Boots’. Better still is the closing ‘Make Ya Mind Up’ which comes off like a modernist update on filter house in the best way.
