Though an ocean may separate them, Bahama’s Obijuan and America’s YOUNGMORPHEUS have a lot in common on their debut full length collaboration SLANG CASINO. While both are known for their classicist style of hip hop, SLANG CASINO sees the duo embrace their origins by dapping some reggae and dub into their typically dusted grooves. The cavernous low end on tracks like ‘SPLIFFHOLDER’ and ‘BANANALEAF’ seem tailor made for a soundsystem while the upstroked ska guitar licks on ‘SNAKES N LADDERS’ ride perfectly alongside the vocal delivery. It’s not all a party though, the interstitial tracks using archival recordings about the Bahamas and Jamaica seemingly ask tough questions about colonialism without disrupting the vibe.
